Every year TASI introduces something new for the benefit of the community. The much sought after TASI Viewers’ Choice Awards (TVCA) received another shot in the arm with the introduction of a new category – Films made by teachers / trainers. Every year students walk away with a bag full of goodies. Its time we felt that their Gurus should be given a chance to showcase their talent. TASI feels this will also encourage individual film making by those in the education sector who are busy making experts.

Anifest India is here again!
Anifest India 2009 is once again being organised in the picturesque IIT Powai campus in Mumbai from 13th to 16 August. With active support from the industry and professionals, this year again there is lots to cheer about since the pre-event organisation activities have started well in advance.
A host of new speakers, new sessions, TV channels, international artists and behind the scene presentations are adding excitement to the lineup. With an aim to encouraging teachers to come out from the shadows, TASI has introduced the teacher/trainer film category to the unique TASI Viewers’ Choice Awards.
As customary, TASI believes that viewers at awards functions should get to see the films that have been entered / pre-selected. This year too all the selected films will be screened for the audience to enjoy and vote. The duration of films for the awards categories has been shortened to 10 mins. This is to ensure that episodic series that were being sent in as short films are segregated and as a result the audience can see more films during the festival. Last year 224 entries were received across the 3 categories.

Animation Production Management : A Session Report
A 150 strong audience set the pace for the much awaited session on Animation Production Management conducted by Ranjit Singh (Tony). Taking an unconventional approach, the presentation started with a case study on a non-animation project. Tony explained how the basic principles of production management are common across different fields. Life becomes simpler if you analyze a project carefully, break it down into manageable tasks, commit resources intelligently and monitor the progress regularly. Animation production management, he explained, is about common sense, more than anything else. Most projects run into trouble because of lack of proper planning and control over the execution. Whether you are an independent artist, student or a professional working for an organization, production management has to start with you, he said. The best systems, procedures and pipelines will fail miserably if there is no belief that organization and discipline go hand in hand with hard work. Planning in the absence of control over the execution is as good as not planning at all.
