Model Animation Workshop in Bengaluru

On 5th May 2012, TASI organised a full day, hands-on workshop in Model Animation at the JSS Auditorium in Bengaluru. It was conducted by the Vaibhav Studios team, which demonstrated live the process of stop motion/puppet/clay animation, including techniques like displacement as well as replacement animation. Stop motion professional artists – Tapas Jana, Chandni and Arvind Chudasama, along with crowd favourite Vaibhav Kumaresh guided the participants to create their own wire frame armatures for stop motion.

The workshop demonstrated the following:

2. Replacement/ displacement animation techniques
3. Translating a 2d character design into an armature diagram
4. Live demonstration of the process of making armatures
5. Tips and suggestions on materials
6. Action analysis
7. Shoot set up
8. Live demonstration of the stop motion animation shoot
9. Playback of the action and review
10. Exhibition of participants’ armatures
11. Q&A

A surprise awaited the participants post-lunch as the inimitable Dhimant Vyas joined in and gave an impromptu presentation, sharing his experiences and some of his recent work. He also selected the best models from among those created by the participants and the best 5 were given prizes by TASI. Here are some photos from the session:
