YouTube 101 – Special Session in Mumbai

YouTube 101 with TASI

The Animation Society of India invited YouTube to conduct a special series of workshops for audio-visual content creators. These workshops called the ‘YouTube 101’ have been specially designed for enthusiastic animators and film-makers who want to create their own original content, publish the content and build a career in doing the same. The objective of the program is to help creators understand the new media/YouTube and how they can start their own media venture on YouTube.

The session covered the following topics:

  1. Understanding the current media world (Old/New media & YouTube)
  2. How to monetize and market your content on YouTube
  3. How to program your content, develop your channel and build audience for your channel on YouTube
  4. How to start on YouTube + Creating Content for YouTube

The first YouTube 101 session was held in Mumbai on 23rd Feb, 2013, at Google India, Maker Max City, 3rd North Avenue, 1st Floor, Bandra Kurla Complex, Mumbai.

Gaurav Dobhal

Gaurav started his professional journey as an entrepreneur launching India’s first independent music platform Tempostand.com. After his start up journey he has worked across a range of media organizations from WPP to Times of India, leading digital marketing campaigns for clients like Ford, Intel, Panasonic and Dolby to name a few. He’s a believer in the power of the digital medium and is excited by the huge entrepreneurial opportunities it presents.

Aanchal Bahadur

Aanchal is a Bachelor of Commerce from Jesus and Mary College, Delhi University. She started her career at Google with AdWords and moved to YouTube last year. Aanchal is a new media enthusiast and is currently excited about working to develop more content genres for more choice on what to watch on YouTube in India. In her free time, she likes to read and write (anything and everything), listen to music, paint and thankfully, watch YouTube videos

TASI’s *Superhit* Session in the Orange City!

Model Animation Workshop with Vaibhav Studios
On 16th February 2013, Nagpur was host to a hands-on workshop in Model Animation with the Vaibhav Studios team, where the process of stop motion/puppet/clay animation was demonstrated live. This included techniques like displacement as well as replacement animation. Stop motion professional artists guided the participants to create their own wire frame armatures for stop motion. All the material for the workshop was provided by TASI.

The workshop demonstrated the following:

1. Stop motion film screenings: puppets, clay, different materials, pixillation
2. Replacement/ displacement animation techniques
3. Translating a 2d character design into an armature diagram
4. Live demonstration of the process of making armatures
5. Tips and suggestions on materials
6. Action analysis
7. Shoot set up
8. Live demonstration of the stop motion animation shoot
9. Playback of the action and review
10. Exhibition of participants’ armatures
11. Q&A

The response was fantastic and now artists and aspiring animators from Nagpur and nearby towns are eager for more such workshops.

  • Designing characters for 3D animation.
  • Extracts and samples of good character design.
  • Samples from Manoj’s portfolio.
  • Question & Answer session.

About Hans Bacher

Hans BacherIn his 40th year in the industry, production designer Hans Bacher is acknowledged as one of the legends in animation film design. His work with Walt Disney Feature Animation, Richard Williams, and Steven Spielberg’s Amblimation saw him production design for such historic films as Who Framed Roger Rabbit, Aladdin, The Lion King, Beauty and the Beast, Balto, Hercules, Fantasia 2000, Lilo and Stitch, Little Match Girl, Brother Bear and Mulan amongst several others. He is a member of the academy of motion picture arts and sciences and has been honored with the Golden Camera Award and an Annie for outstanding individual achievement in Production Design. His first book, Dreamworlds: Production Design for Animation, published by Focal Press, Oxford is considered the best textbook for this subject worldwide.
